QR Code Generator

Free Static QR Code Generator

Create a QR code for text, a website, email, contact details, SMS or Wi-Fi. Customize it, download the image, then test the result before sharing.

Static means the content is stored in the image, not in an editable redirect managed by this tool. A website QR code still needs a working destination and an internet connection when opened.

From QR image to a code people can use

A QR code holds data in a grid of small squares called modules. A reader decodes that data and may offer an action, such as opening a link or preparing a message. Generating an image is only the first step: the destination, design and reader all affect whether it works in practice.

Guide reviewed: . Covers the controls and exports on this page.

How to create and check your QR code

  1. Choose the action. Select Text, Website, Email, vCard, SMS or WiFi. Use Website for a page you maintain; use Text for a short message that does not need a website.
  2. Enter only what the reader needs. Include https:// in a website address. For a contact, start with first and last name, then add the details you intend to share. Longer content creates a denser code.
  3. Keep the first version simple. Start with black on white and no logo. Choose an image size between 100 and 500 pixels. Size here is the exported image width, not a guaranteed print size or scanning distance.
  4. Generate and export. Press Generate QR Code after changing your data or settings. Download PNG for everyday use; read the export notes below before choosing SVG or PDF.
  5. Scan the exported file. Check both the decoded content and the action on the intended devices. For print, also test a physical proof at its final size.

Worked examples: what should a scan do?

These are demonstration values, not real contact or network credentials. A phone may show a confirmation screen rather than perform an action automatically.

Inputs and expected results for the six supported content types
TypeEnter in the toolCheck after scanning
TextMeeting starts at 09:30.The reader displays the same sentence, including the time and punctuation.
Websitehttps://example.com/The reader identifies that exact URL. Replace it with your own working page before publishing.
Emailhello@example.comThe payload is mailto:hello@example.com. A configured email app may open a draft; scanning does not send an email.
vCardFirst Name: Alex; Last Name: Morgan; Organization: Example Studio.A compatible reader offers a contact preview or import. Verify name order and each field before saving.
SMSMobile Number: +12025550123; Message: Please send details. The payload is SMSTO:+12025550123:Please send details.. Confirm the recipient and message in a compatible app; sending still requires a user action and may incur carrier charges.
WiFiNetwork Name: GuestDemo; Password: DemoPass123; Encryption: WPA/WPA2; Hidden: unchecked.A compatible device offers to join the named network. It only connects if the network exists, is in range and accepts those settings.

Wi-Fi caution: the password is readable from the QR image. Use a guest network you are authorized to share, not a private or administrative network. Enterprise Wi-Fi and WPA3-only settings are not offered by this tool. WEP is a legacy option, not a recommended security choice.

Colors, quiet zones and error correction

Keep the squares dark and the background light. The contrast preview measures text contrast; its AA or AAA label is not a certification that a QR code will scan. Reflective paper, low light, a small print size or a dense payload can still make a code unreadable.

Preserve the clear border around all four sides. This generator uses a four-module margin, also called the quiet zone. Do not crop it away or fill it with text, artwork or a frame.

Error-correction levels and their trade-offs
LevelApproximate recoveryConsiderations
L (Low)7%Less recovery overhead for clean, unobstructed codes.
M (Medium)15%A common starting point for general use.
Q (Quartile)25%More recovery overhead; may increase code density.
H (High)30%The default here; consider it when adding a small logo, then test.

These percentages refer to recovery of codewords, not the percentage of image area you can safely cover. There is no universal safe logo size. A logo that obscures a finder pattern or too much data may break scanning even at High correction. If a code fails, remove the logo first. Higher correction does not compensate for printing the modules too small.

Choose an export format with its limitations in mind

  • PNG: a raster image at the selected size. Avoid enlarging a small PNG or converting it to a heavily compressed JPEG, which can blur the module edges.
  • SVG: this implementation wraps a PNG image inside an SVG file. It is not a true vector QR code and does not gain unlimited sharpness when enlarged.
  • PDF: places a raster QR image at 50 mm wide on a PDF page. The underlying resolution still matters. Print without unexpected scaling and scan a proof.
  • Copy: image clipboard support depends on the browser, a secure connection and permissions. Download a PNG if clipboard copying is unavailable.

No single printed dimension works for every code. A short URL, a long contact card and a distant poster have different requirements. Use the final artwork, material and viewing distance for your test rather than relying on a minimum-size promise.

A pre-publication checklist

  1. Open the destination yourself. Check HTTPS, spelling, redirects and whether a login is required.
  2. Scan the downloaded image on more than one intended device or reader, not just the live preview.
  3. Print a sample at the final size with its quiet zone intact. Test under likely lighting and distance.
  4. Check the actual action: correct contact fields, message recipient or guest-network connection.
  5. Add a plain-text URL or short explanation beside the code so people know what to expect and have an alternative if scanning fails.
  6. Keep the source data and recheck linked pages after publishing. Changing a website address, mailbox or Wi-Fi password can make old printed codes unusable.

Troubleshooting by symptom

The camera cannot recognize the code
Remove the logo, return to black on white and restore the clear border. Increase the image or printed size. If the pattern is very dense, shorten the content and generate again.
A link scans, but the page does not open
Include the full https:// address. Check the decoded URL, internet connection, domain and destination page. A readable code cannot repair a broken website.
Email, SMS or a contact appears as raw text
The reader may not support that payload or may lack a configured app. Try the intended phone's camera or another trusted reader. Check contact fields before distributing a vCard.
Wi-Fi is recognized, but connection fails
Check the network name's spelling and case, password, encryption and Hidden setting. Confirm that the network is nearby and supports the selected authentication type.
The exported code is blurry
Generate a larger PNG and avoid resizing or lossy recompression. The SVG and PDF exports here contain raster images, so changing the file extension does not restore lost detail.

QR data, browser history and privacy

The generator builds QR images in your browser; its generation code does not upload the entered text or selected logo to a QR-generation server. That is separate from visiting this website: the site includes third-party advertising scripts that make network requests.

After generation, the tool can save up to ten recent entries in this browser's localStorage under qrHistory. Entries include a type, timestamp, text preview and QR image reference. An image can expose the full encoded content, even if the text preview is shortened. History has no automatic time-based expiry. Avoid sensitive content on a shared device.

Clearing history does not delete downloaded images, clipboard contents or copies you shared. Anyone with a QR image may decode it; a QR code is not encryption. When a reader opens a link, the destination's own privacy practices apply.

Read the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy for site-wide advertising and storage details.

Frequently asked questions

Do these QR codes expire or require a subscription?

The static image has no built-in expiry or subscription check. However, a linked website can disappear, credentials can change, and an image can become unreadable. The destination must remain available for the intended action to work.

Can I change a printed code's destination?

Not inside this static QR image. Generate and distribute a new image if the encoded data changes. If you encode a URL you control, you can update the page at that URL. This tool does not provide a managed dynamic redirect service.

Does this tool track scans?

The generator does not add a scan-tracking redirect or provide scan reports. A linked website or a third-party short-link service may record visits separately. Advertising requests on this site are separate from scans of your exported image.

Can I use the image in commercial materials?

You may use the generated QR image in personal or commercial materials. You remain responsible for permissions for logos and content, the destination's legitimacy and testing the final artwork. Adding a QR code does not grant rights to someone else's brand.

Can I work offline?

Generation uses browser-side code once the required resources have loaded, but this site does not promise offline installation or availability after a reload. Opening website links still requires connectivity; email and SMS actions depend on the device.
